My safety plan
Takes 10 minutes. Fill it in on a good-ish day so it's ready on a bad one.
1. My warning signs
Thoughts, feelings or situations that tell me a hard moment is starting.
2. Things I can do on my own
Stuff that takes my mind off it without anyone else — music, a walk, a shower.
3. People and places that distract me
A friend to hang out with, a park, the library, a group chat that's just memes.
4. People I can ask for help
People I trust enough to tell that I'm struggling.
5. Professionals and crisis lines
A counselor, doctor or therapist. The crisis lines below are always included.
- • Emergency services (US): 911
- • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 · 988lifeline.org
- • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 · crisistextline.org
- • The Trevor Project: Call 1-866-488-7386 · Text START to 678678 · thetrevorproject.org
- • Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline: Call 1-800-422-4453 · childhelp.org
- • Find a Helpline (international): findahelpline.com
6. Making my space safer
Things I can put away or ask someone to hold onto while things are hard.
The things that matter to me
Optional. People, pets, plans, anything worth sticking around for.
