Extra support

Eating concerns

If food, eating, exercise, or body thoughts are taking over, you deserve help without having to prove it is serious enough.

You do not have to handle this alone

If you feel unsafe or might hurt yourself, open Need help now? and connect with a crisis counselor or emergency support now.

Find someone to talk to

What it is

Eating concerns can include distressing thoughts or behaviors around food, body image, weight, or exercise. They can affect people in any body. You cannot tell how much someone is struggling by looking at them, and only a professional can diagnose an eating disorder.

What it can feel like

You might feel anxious around meals, follow rigid rules, avoid eating with others, feel out of control, or spend a lot of time thinking about food or your body. Shame can make it hard to say anything, but secrecy is not a requirement for support.

“I thought I had to look sick before I could ask for help. I did not.”

In their words

What can help

Tell a trusted person clearly that food or body thoughts are taking up too much space. A doctor or eating-disorder-informed professional can check both physical and emotional health. Avoid accounts or conversations that turn bodies, food, or exercise into a competition.

When to get help

Get help soon if eating concerns are changing how you eat, move, socialize, think, or feel. Seek urgent medical help for alarming physical symptoms. If you may hurt yourself, use Need help now? right away.
